Customs Exceeds 2024 Revenue Target, Rakes in ₦643 Billion

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Area 2 Command, Onne, Rivers State, has surpassed its 2024 revenue target by generating an impressive ₦643 billion, exceeding the set target of ₦618 billion.

At a press briefing in Onne on Tuesday, the Area Controller, Mr. Muhammed Babandede, announced that the revenue represented 103% of the 2024 annual target, surpassing the 2023 figure by ₦321 billion.

Babandede attributed the success to the command’s effective strategies in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations. “This earned us an award from the Comptroller-General,” he stated.

The command confiscated 76 containers with a duty-paid value (DPV) exceeding ₦150 billion.

Additionally, Babandede highlighted the interception of one million bottles of cough syrup, 500,000 bottles of extra diclofenac, and sanitary wares used for concealing illicit drugs.

“A recent seizure of 12 containers with DPV worth over ₦20 million also formed part of the total revenue made in 2024,” he added, emphasizing the command’s commitment to trade facilitation, transparency, and effective service delivery.

Mr. Babandede praised the Comptroller-General, Bashir Adeniyi, for recognizing the Area 2 Command as the best-performing unit in anti-smuggling operations, calling it a “morale booster” for the officers.

The achievement underscores the NCS’s dedication to revenue generation and safeguarding Nigeria’s economy through strategic anti-smuggling campaigns.
