Member of the House of Representatives representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, has renewed his appeal to the Federal Government to allocate the recently forfeited Abuja estate comprising 753 duplexes and apartments to the Nigerian Armed Forces to address their urgent housing needs.

FCNN gathered that the estate is situated on Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District, Abuja, spans 150,500 square meters. It was permanently forfeited to the Federal Government following a court order issued on December 2, 2024, by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzi. The property, linked to former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele, was seized due to its connection to corruption allegations.

However,Hon. Dasuki’s renewed call follows the formal handover of the estate to the Ministry of Housing by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday. While the Housing Ministry plans to make the units available for public purchase and special government use, the lawmaker insists the military’s welfare must take priority.

Speaking through a statement issued on Wednesday, Dasuki stressed that adequate housing remains a critical component of military welfare. He urged that continued abandon of this area could contribute to stress, low morale, and operational inefficiencies among military personnel.

“We must ensure that those who keep us safe have a decent place to lay their heads,” Dasuki said. “It is a moral obligation we owe to the brave men and women in uniform.”

The legislator, who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Shipping Services, noted that while the forfeiture marked progress in the fight against corruption, a greater national gain would be realized if the estate was repurposed for military housing.

He described the allocation as a “low-hanging fruit” that could immediately address the accommodation challenges faced by service members, especially in the Federal Capital Territory.

“By prioritizing the welfare of our Armed Forces, we reinforce our national security and demonstrate genuine gratitude for their sacrifices,” Dasuki added. “This is a rare opportunity that must not be missed.”

He further encouraged the National Assembly leadership to engage the Executive arm of government in discussions to allocate the estate directly to the military.
