Bafarawa Dismisses SDP Membership Rumors, Calls for Responsible Journalism

Former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Bafarawa has refuted claims that he has joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), dismissing the viral reports as false and misleading.

Reacting to the speculation, Bafarawa’s aide, Dr. Abubakar Umar, clarified the situation in a statement issued on Tuesday in Sokoto. He stated that the former governor had not granted any media interview or engaged in consultations regarding joining the party.

Bafarawa urged journalists to verify information before publication and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.

“Ramadan is a month of fasting, gratitude to Allah for His blessings, and a time for the wealthy to support the less fortunate in society. It is a season for sharing food, not spreading rumors,” he was quoted as saying.

Last year, Bafarawa distanced himself from active partisan politics, opting instead to align with a grassroots development initiative.

The former governor’s statement comes amid rising political speculations, highlighting the importance of accurate reporting in the media.
