DSS releases Ajaero Passport

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released the passport of Joe Ajaero, the
President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)

Ajaero’s phones and passport were siezed following his arrest and detention that lasted several hours, in Abuja on Monday.
Fusion Chronicles earlier reported that Ajaero was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on his way to the United Kingdom to attend the Trade Union Congress conference in London but later granted administrative bail after a long period of detention.

The NLC on Monday accused the DSS of arresting Ajaero without a warrant.
Ajaero’s detention had sparked widespread concerns and great speculation as regards the circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention.
Lawyers close to the NLC president told Reporters that the DSS was later forced to release Ajaero’s passport and mobile phones.
“They refused to release his passport and initially his phones but returned his phone last night after he refused to leave the DSS headquarters without his phones.
“This morning (Tuesday), they finally released his passport to him through his lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, from the Femi & Falana’s Chambers. They held back his passport because they did not want him to travel,” the source said.
