EFCC Arrests 35 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Edo State

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 35 individuals believed to be involved in internet fraud in Auchi, Edo State.
The arrests occurred at various locations throughout the town, including Vigilante Street, off Sabo Ibenafo Road, and the Back of Yak areas.
In a statement released on its official Twitter account on Tuesday, the EFCC revealed that the operation was based on “credible intelligence linking [the suspects] to fraudulent internet activities.”
The agency reiterated its dedication to tackling cybercrime, affirming, “We remain resolute in our mandate to rid Nigeria of economic and financial crimes.”
During the arrests, the EFCC seized several items from the suspects, including nine vehicles, eleven laptops, 46 mobile phones, and two smartwatches, all of which are believed to have been utilized in the alleged fraudulent activities.
The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing investigation, with plans to bring them to court once the probe is complete.
This operation is part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to address the increasing prevalence of internet fraud, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo,” in Nigeria.
Auchi has been identified as a hotspot for such activities, prompting heightened surveillance and enforcement by the anti-graft agency.
