Police Rescue 19 Ghanaians from Human Traffickers in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has rescued 19 Ghanaian nationals who were victims of suspected human trafficking in Ibadan.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adewale Osifeso, said the victims—14 men and five women—were lured into Nigeria under false pretenses of employment opportunities.

According to Osifeso, the young victims were deceived by unidentified traffickers who exploited them for financial gain. He noted that the victims have provided valuable information, which is aiding ongoing investigations.

“The operation was based on credible intelligence about suspicious activity at a building in the Kajorepo area of Akinyele Local Government Area,” he said. “Acting on this tip, operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), supported by tactical teams, executed a search warrant at the location, which was found locked from the outside.”

He said the police operation led to the discovery and rescue of the 19 Ghanaian nationals.

Osifeso added that the victims have since been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and possible repatriation.
