EFCC Secures Court Order to Detain VeryDarkMan Over Alleged Financial Crimes

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that it obtained a valid court order to detain popular social media activist and influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), following allegations of serious financial misconduct.

In a statement shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, the Commission stated that Otse’s arrest was based on multiple petitions and his repeated failure to honour invitations sent to him through verified addresses and communication channels.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in the exercise of its mandate of tackling economic and financial crimes, invited Martins Vincent Otse owing to a series of petitions bordering on sundry issues of alleged financial crimes raised against him. He refused to show up in spite of several invitations,” the statement read.

The Commission also confirmed it had obtained the necessary remand order, granting legal backing for Otse’s detention while investigations are ongoing.

Responding to public reactions about the arrest, the EFCC clarified that the operation was not influenced by Otse’s critical commentary against the agency.

“It is needful to admit that the Commission is aware of several unguarded attacks of the suspect against its operations. While such conduct is condemnable, his arrest was not informed by such attacks,” it said.

According to the statement, administrative bail has been offered to Otse and he will be released once he meets the required conditions.

The EFCC emphasized that formal charges will be filed once investigations are concluded, urging the public to allow the agency to carry out its duties without interference.

“The EFCC should be allowed to do its job without fear or favour. As soon as investigations are concluded, charges will be filed,” the statement added.
