Gunmen Abducts Ex-Nasarawa Rep, Wife

Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, a former member of the House of Representatives for the Lafia, Obi, Keana Federal Constituency in Nasarawa State, alongside his wife has been kidnapped.

FCNN gathered on Tuesday that the politician and his wife were kidnapped on Monday evening while they were travelling to Jos, the Plateau State capital.

A police officer who was assigned to his convoy was also unfortunately killed by the gunmen who embarked on the operation in their numbers.

The incident took place about 6:00 pm between Nunku community in the Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and Gwantu community in the Sanga Local Government Area of Kadu and State.

The spot which is known for its notorious criminal activities where several kidnappings had taken place had led to the loss of lives of many of the victims.

A villager in the area known as Musa, confirmed the incident to Newsmen saying there were sporadic gunshots around the communities while the bandits were carrying out the dangerous act.

He explained that residents of the communities later saw the lifeless body of the police officer who was assigned to the politician when they visited the scene of the incident hours after the attack.

“We are appealing to the security agencies including the police to make haste and ensure that the victims are released from the kidnappers’ den unhurt.

“The issue of insecurity in this environment has become a thing of concern. We are begging the government to help us out of this situation by deploying adequate security personnel to this area so that we can have peace of mind and start sleeping with our two eyes closed at night,” the source said.

Efforts made to get the reaction of the Nasarawa State Police Command proved abortive as the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, did not respond to phone calls put across to his mobile lines nor replied to the message sent to his telephone number as at the time of filing this report.
