Ekiti Federal College of Education Matriculates 317 Pioneer Students

The Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti, on Wednesday formally matriculated its first set of 317 students.

Delivering the keynote lecture titled “Teacher Education and Nigeria’s National Development,” former Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Prof. Femi Mimiko, urged the students to avoid “destiny-bursting pastimes” that could jeopardize their future.

He described teacher education as the foundation of national growth and transformation, stressing the need for Nigeria to embrace innovation while safeguarding moral values in the face of rising influence of Artificial Intelligence in education.

Provost of the College, Prof. Ajigbade Ikuejube, congratulated the new students, charging them to uphold discipline, hard work, and moral uprightness.

He reaffirmed the institution’s mission to produce competent teachers who will contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s educational development.

The Registrar, Mrs. Wuraola Garba, administered the matriculation oath on the students, officially admitting them into the institution.

The Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti and former Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Adebanji Alabi, commended the Federal Government for establishing the college.

He noted that the institution had not only expanded access to higher education but also created employment opportunities. The monarch assured continued community support, highlighting recent contributions such as solar-powered electricity for administrative offices and the construction of a police station for enhanced security.

He advised students to focus on their studies and shun cultism, drug abuse, and other vices.

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the JAMB State Coordinator, Mr. Kayode Dada; Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye (represented by Hon. Babatunde Oke); Ondo State Internal Revenue Service Chairman, Mr. Adebayo Rojugbokan; Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers and Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu-Alagbado; and the Onigede of Igede-Ekiti, Oba James Adelusi Aladesuru.
