Delta Police Bust Notorious Kidnap Syndicate Operating Across Three States

The Delta State Police Command has successfully dismantled a notorious interstate kidnap syndicate believed to be responsible for multiple abductions across Delta, Rivers and Enugu States.

The suspects—21-year-old Idirisu Yakubu from Kwara State, 40-year-old Bello Amodu of Tangaza LGA in Sokoto State, and 38-year-old Umar Mohammed Beto from Tsamiya village in Bagudu LGA, Kebbi State—were apprehended at separate locations in Rivers State.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, it was revealed that the criminal gang had been coordinating operations across several southern states, posing a significant security threat in the region.

Two of the suspects, Bello and Mohammed—described as the “gang leader and coordinator”—were arrested on Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17, respectively, at Elelenwo in Port Harcourt. The third suspect, Umar, who allegedly oversaw the Enugu operations, was based in the Oil Mill Area of Port Harcourt.

According to SP Edafe, “They led the operatives to a bush along Ughelli – Ozoro Road where one AK-47 Rifle loaded with 23 rounds of live ammunition and a pump action with seven rounds of live cartridges were recovered.”
