Enugu Farmers Appeal for Help After Suspected Herdsmen Kill Four

At least four farmers have been killed following a renewed attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen in the Mgbuji Autonomous Community of Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Enugu State.
The attack, which occurred on Monday, left several others injured. Despite the severity of the incident, both the Enugu State Government and the Nigeria Police have remained silent as of the time of this report.
Graphic videos and images obtained by our correspondent show the bodies of the victims being recovered from their farmland. Community members confirmed that the deceased included three adults and a young man identified as Izuchukwu Uzu, believed to be about 20 years old.
Community leader Samuel Ede expressed frustration over the repeated violence and lack of proactive security. “We are tired and despondent. The government only sends security agents after each attack to recover corpses. They do nothing to prevent these attacks or confront the attackers,” he said.
Another resident, Okibe Ogenyi, corroborated the death toll, stating that three bodies were recovered on Monday and a fourth on Tuesday afternoon.
He described the situation as akin to a “guerrilla war,” saying, “Our people live in constant fear. You secure one part of the area and they strike from another.”
This latest violence comes just three months after women from seven Eha-Amufu communities staged a protest over ongoing attacks by herdsmen, which they say have led to the deaths of hundreds and the sexual assault of women since 2021.
According to local sources, at least 152 people had been killed in Eha-Amufu by suspected herdsmen between 2021 and March 2025. The latest incident brings the number of reported fatalities to 156, with over 49 reported cases of abduction.
Attempts to reach the local council chairman, Obiora Obeagu, were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages went unanswered. Similarly, the Enugu State Police Command has not issued an official response, and its spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, was unreachable.
