Enugu Road Collapse Strands Community Residents and Farm Produce
Residents of Agu Umabor in Eha-Alumona, Nsukka Local Government Area, are urgently calling for government intervention as erosion threatens to sever their only access road.
The Agu Umabor-Eha-Alumona-Breme-Mbu-Ikem Road, which connects Nsukka and Isi-Uzo LGAs, has been severely affected by gully erosion, leaving the community at risk of being completely cut off. The Agu Umabor Elites Group expressed their concerns in a statement, saying, “We, the members of Agu Umabor Elites Group in Nsukka Local Government Area, wish to draw the attention of the Enugu State government and the general public to the deplorable condition of this critical road.”
Earlier in the year, the group had appealed to the state governor for assistance, warning that the road was on the verge of being destroyed by the erosion. With a population of approximately 100,000 people, the community relies heavily on the road to transport agricultural products, as the residents are predominantly farmers.
Once again, the group is pleading with the Enugu State Government and well-meaning individuals to provide urgent help, stressing that the road is unlikely to withstand the remainder of the rainy season without immediate repairs.
