SDA Church Celebrates 20 Teenage Girls for Preserving Virginity

The Wenchi West District of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Ghana’s Bono Region recently honored 20 teenage girls, aged 13 to 16, for maintaining their virginity. The recognition, which took place during a Thanksgiving service over the weekend, has sparked diverse reactions among the public.

As part of the event, the church awarded the girls an undisclosed sum of money to encourage their commitment to purity and dedication to faith-based values.

Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, District Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, explained that the initiative aims to combat teenage pregnancy and fornication within the community while promoting the virtue of chastity.

“God created you uniquely beautiful, and you must not allow anybody to lure and break your virginity until you marry,” she advised the young girls, urging them to remain steadfast in their beliefs.

The church’s decision to celebrate the girls has drawn mixed reactions. Supporters view the initiative as a positive way to encourage moral behavior and protect young girls from societal pressures. Critics, however, argue that such recognition could lead to unintended stigmatization of those who may not meet the same expectations.

The story has since ignited discussions on the role of religious institutions in shaping societal values and addressing sensitive topics like teenage morality.

While the initiative has drawn attention, it remains a thought-provoking example of how faith-based communities tackle social challenges.
