Ex Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello Withdrew Whopping N640m in Just Six Days – UBA Bank testifies

Kindly share this story

A compliance officer with the United Bank for Africa (UBA), Abimbola Williams, on Wednesday testified before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama that a total of N640 million was withdrawn from the Kogi State Government’s account within just six days.

Williams made the revelation while appearing as a witness in the ongoing trial involving former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, who is facing corruption charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The funds, according to the witness, were withdrawn in multiple tranches between July 26 and 31, 2021, raising suspicions about their intended use.

The EFCC alleges that Bello and his associates diverted state funds for personal and political purposes. The court adjourned the case to a later date for the continuation of the trial, as the prosecution prepares to call additional witnesses.
