Explosion Kills Travellers Returning from Sallah Celebration in Sokoto
An explosion suspected to have been caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has killed several people returning from Sallah festivities in Gwabro village, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident occurred over the weekend during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. According to reports, the victims, who were travelling on motorcycles from a Sallah visit, accidentally triggered the device.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the Special Assistant to the Chairman of Tangaza LGA, Alhaji Ghazzali Rakah, stated that the victims were residents of Zurmuku village.
He explained that the group had stopped to rest under a tree believed to be a common location for military operations in the area.
“It is likely that the Lakurawa insurgents planted the device in anticipation of military presence,” Ghazzali said.
