FCCPC Summons Air Peace Over Non-Refund Complaints, Demands One-Year Flight Records
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has summoned the management of Air Peace Limited following widespread complaints by passengers over the airline’s alleged failure to refund ticket fares for canceled flights.
In a formal letter dated June 13, 2025, the FCCPC directed Air Peace to appear before the Commission at its headquarters in Abuja on Monday, June 23, 2025. The Commission is demanding documentary evidence, including a full complaint log, a list of all canceled flights over the past 12 months, and records of processed refunds during that period.
“This letter serves as formal notification…,” the Commission stated, citing Sections 32 and 33 of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018.
According to the Commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, the action follows a flood of consumer complaints from across Nigeria alleging that Air Peace routinely fails to issue timely refunds after canceling flights.
“These actions potentially contravene Sections 130(1)(a) and (b), and 130(2)(b) of the FCCPA, which expressly guarantee consumers the right to timely refunds where advance bookings, reservations, or orders are unfulfilled due to service-provider’s failure,” the statement read.
The Commission warned that failure to comply with the provisions of Section 33(3) of the FCCPA could lead to serious sanctions, including fines or imprisonment.

“This provision enshrines the principle of fair dealing and safeguards consumers against unfair, unjust, or unreasonable practices by service-providers. In a formal summons dated June 13, 2025, the Commission, invoking Sections 32 and 33 of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018, requires Air Peace to appear before the Commission at its Abuja Headquarters on Monday, June 23, 2025.”
This summons comes months after the FCCPC initiated inquiries into Air Peace’s pricing policies following reports of exploitative fare hikes, particularly for advance bookings on certain domestic routes. In response to that probe, Air Peace filed a lawsuit seeking to restrain the Commission from further investigation—a separate matter from the current non-refund controversy.
The FCCPC has reiterated its commitment to enforcing consumer protection laws and holding service providers accountable to ensure airline passengers are not subjected to exploitative or unfair practices.
