FCTA Authorities Reclaim PDP National Secretariat Amid Legal Tussle Over Tenancy

The Federal Capital Territory Administration(FCTA) has taken possession of the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), located at Wadata Plaza in the Wuse Zone 5 area of Abuja. The move comes amid ongoing legal disputes concerning the ownership and status of the property.

The operation, which was carried out in the early hours of Monday, saw heavily armed security personnel cordon off the premises, effectively barring entry to staff and party officials. Witnesses at the scene reported that FCT officials were accompanied by officers from the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant agencies, acting on a directive purportedly backed by a recent court order.

According to a senior official within the FCT Administration who spoke on condition of anonymity, the government’s action was based on what he described as “a long-standing breach of tenancy and ownership agreements.” He stated that multiple notices had been served to the occupants, and that the decision to reclaim the property was taken only after all legal avenues had been exhausted.

However, the PDP has pushed back strongly against the development. In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, the party described the seizure as “unlawful, politically motivated, and an affront to democracy.” The PDP claimed it remains the legitimate occupant of the property and vowed to challenge the FCT Administration’s actions in court.

“This is a clear attempt to stifle opposition voices and intimidate the PDP ahead of future elections,” the statement read. “We view this as part of a broader agenda to silence dissent and manipulate political institutions through coercive tactics.”

Legal experts say the controversy over Wadata Plaza has been brewing for years, with conflicting claims between the PDP and certain private entities who allege to have ownership rights dating back to prior transactions. Some legal analysts have noted that the FCT’s action, if not swiftly resolved, could set a dangerous precedent in terms of political neutrality and property rights enforcement.

As at the time of filing this report, the premises remained under heavy security, and all official PDP activities have been suspended at the secretariat. Sources within the party say alternative arrangements are being made for its national operations while the legal challenge is being prepared.

The incident has sparked a flurry of reactions from civil society groups, opposition parties, and political commentators, many of whom have called for restraint and due process. With the political temperature already heightened ahead of the next electoral cycle, the unfolding situation at Wadata Plaza is being closely watched both locally and internationally.
