FG Closes Case Against Nnamdi Kanu as Court Sets Date for Final Arguments

Case Against Nnamdi Kanu as Court Sets Date for Final Arguments

In a significant development in the ongoing trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the Federal Government of Nigeria officially closed its case today, Wednesday, June 19, 2025, following the cross-examination of its fifth and final witness.

The trial judge has adjourned the matter to July 18, 2025, for the adoption of final written addresses regarding the “No Case Submission” filed by Kanu’s defense team.

A “No Case Submission” is a legal argument asserting that the prosecution has failed to establish a prima facie case, and therefore, the defendant should not be required to enter a defense.

The court also issued strict timelines for both parties:

The defense team has 14 days from today to file its written address in support of the No Case Submission.

The prosecution will then have another 14 days to file its response.

This phase marks a critical point in the trial, as the court will now determine whether the case should be dismissed outright or proceed to full defense.

Stay tuned for further updates as the case continues to unfold.
