FG Launches Eco-Friendly Bamboo Housing Project for Low, Medium-Income Nigerians

The Federal Government has announced a new initiative to build bamboo houses across Nigeria, targeting low and medium-income earners.

Unveiled during a Capacity Building Workshop on Climate-Smart Housing in Abuja, the project aims to provide affordable and sustainable housing while addressing the nation’s housing deficit.

Speaking at the event, Esuabana Asanye, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology—represented by Benadette Oguche, Director of Environmental Science and Technology—highlighted bamboo’s potential as a cost-effective and eco-friendly construction material.

Asanye emphasized bamboo’s versatility, noting its use in sectors ranging from construction to medicine and paper production.

He also commended the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) for its contributions to developing climate-resilient infrastructure and sustainable building solutions.
