FG Pledges Swift Completion of Sokoto-Zaria Road to Boost Economy and Security
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the 750-kilometer Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua-Zaria road reconstruction, ensuring timely delivery of the crucial infrastructure project.
The Minister of State for Works, Mr. Bello Goronyo, gave this assurance on Saturday during an inspection tour of the project, covering sections in Sokoto and Zamfara states.
He emphasized that the inspection was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to ensure that ongoing road projects are completed on schedule and remain motorable for Nigerians.

Goronyo, leading a team that included the ministry’s Permanent Secretary and other officials, visited multiple project sites across Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna and Kano states.
He reminded contractors and project managers of their contractual obligations, stressing the need for quality work and adherence to deadlines.
“I am leading a team comprising the Permanent Secretary and other ministry officials on the inspection tour to projects from Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kano States to ensure quality and seamless projects,” he stated.
The minister also highlighted President Tinubu’s broader vision for infrastructural development, citing the ongoing 1,068-kilometer Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway project—a legacy initiative that was first envisioned 47 years ago by former President Shehu Shagari.
Describing the highway as a “commercial booster and life-saving project,” Goronyo noted its potential to enhance economic growth, security and social development.

During the tour, Goronyo engaged with contractors, government officials, and local community members. He reassured property owners that due compensation would be paid to those affected by the project.
He further urged citizens to support President Tinubu’s administration, stating that its commitment to delivering key infrastructure projects across Nigeria would significantly impact the lives of the people.
“The essence of leadership is to bring development to the people. Mr. President has brought uncountable development not only to the region but also to all levels,” Goronyo said.
The inspection underscores the government’s determination to fast-track road projects that are crucial for regional connectivity and national development.
