Kindly share this story

A tragic episode occurred in Suleja, Niger State, where a 25-year-old man, identified as Adamu Abdullahi, was beaten to death by an angry crowd after he was accused of killing his mother.

According to reports, the incident followed a disagreement over property left behind by Abdullahi’s late father. His mother, Hauwa Sanusi, aged 45, was said to have been safeguarding her son’s share of the inheritance, reportedly out of concern that he might squander it. Trouble began shortly after Abdullahi returned to Suleja after being away for a long time.

In the early hours of December 13, 2025, Abdullahi allegedly attacked his mother during an argument, stabbing her several times. Her cries for help drew the attention of neighbours, who rushed to the house and found her lying in a pool of blood. As Abdullahi attempted to escape, residents caught him. Angered by the woman’s condition, some youths descended on him, beating him severely until he died.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Command, through its spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said both bodies had been removed from the scene and the weapon used in the attack recovered. He added that police have launched a manhunt for those involved in the mob action, many of whom fled before officers arrived.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the deadly consequences of unresolved family conflicts and the growing problem of mob justice, as investigations continue to bring all those responsible to account.
