The Nigerian Airport Agency, FAAN, Issues Strict Warning to Security Agency

The Managing Director of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has issued a stern warning to the heads of agencies and organisations over professional misconduct at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

Kuku issued the warning on Tuesday when she read the riot act to the heads of security agencies of the MMIA, Lagos.

Kuku said, “Investors are complaining. At the Lagos airport, the first thing they see is welcome to Nigeria.

The number of messages I have received from passengers, from the honourable minister and from the President is insane. Especially from the Lagos airport.

“ANSEC, you represent an agency and an organization. The way you engage – ‘aunty what did you bring for us? Aunty bye bye. Aunty open your bag.”

Speaking on some complaints she has received, Kuku said, “I have an individual, these people were Chinese passengers who were plying through the terminal and they said somebody gave them a necklace as a gift.

“I have also got feedback that ANSEC officers and Customs said that they are not collecting pensions. So this is the way for them to earn their pensions.

“This has to stop and I have very clear directives. It goes to the team leads, to the HODs and to the heads of organization’

“If your organization  is found wanting, it means that as a leader has failed and it means that I have failed, and this has to stop.

“I also heard that agencies are giving returns to their bosses. The airport is no longer a place to come and make money.

“If anybody in your organization is asking you to give returns, ANSEC, and to all other agencies, tell them you don’t want to come here, because the penalties are going to be severe.”
