Fire destroys four shops in Ibadan

A midnight fire on Friday gutted four shops at Saki Motor Park, opposite Trans Amusement Park in Bodija, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Eyewitnesses said the fire, which started around 2:00 a.m., was caused by unattended embers left after business hours. It spread quickly, consuming four of the 11 shops before firefighters arrived.
Oyo State Fire Service Chairman, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement. He said the agency received the distress call at 2:07 a.m. and firefighters, led by ACFS Adedeji, swiftly curtailed the flames from spreading to nearby shops and buildings.
“No casualty was recorded. The fire was traced to embers that ignited nearby combustibles. Though four shops were affected, properties worth millions of naira were saved,” Akinwande said.
Akinwande, who is also Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform, advised residents to be cautious with fire, keep fire service emergency lines handy, and install fire extinguishers in their homes and businesses.
