The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed rescuing occupants from a fire that broke out on the 11th floor of the Ultimate Apartment in Ikoyi late Friday night.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, revealed in a statement that the emergency response was initiated after a distress call was received at 10:16 PM.
“Following distress calls received through the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines at 22.16 hrs, LASEMA activated its response teams from Lekki, Onipan, and the Command and Control Centre, Alausa.
“On arrival at the incident scene, LASEMA discovered that an eleven-storey building, ‘The Ultimate Apartments,’ was engulfed in fire.
“Further investigations revealed that the fire originated from a room on the 11th floor, but the immediate cause could not be ascertained,” he stated.
While containing the blaze to prevent it from spreading, the emergency teams also educated residents on the dangers of smoke inhalation during fire incidents.
