First lady express sorrow over Abuja tanker explosion

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed profound sorrow over the devastating tanker explosion that occurred on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, near the Karu Bridge on the Abuja-Keffi Highway.
The tragic incident resulted in multiple fatalities and significant property damage, leaving numerous families in grief.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the First Lady conveyed her deepest condolences to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as well as to the families of the victims, those injured, and all individuals affected by this disaster. She acknowledged the immense pain experienced by community members, local business owners, and the larger Abuja population.
“I am heartbroken by the tragic tanker explosion that has claimed so many lives and caused considerable loss,” she stated. “I extend my sympathies to the Minister of the FCT, the families of the deceased and injured, and everyone impacted by this calamity.”
Mrs. Tinubu also called for enhanced compliance with vehicle safety regulations, urging owners and drivers, particularly those of articulated vehicles, to ensure their vehicles are well-maintained before taking to the roads. She emphasized that adherence to maintenance and roadworthiness standards is vital for preventing similar incidents in the future.

Offering prayers for the deceased, she asked for God’s comfort for their families during this challenging.
“I pray that Almighty God grants eternal rest to the souls of the departed and provides strength to their family and friends as they navigate this irreplaceable loss.To those who are injured, I wish you a swift recovery,” she added.
