Ekiti govt, firm sign MoU on agro-forest investment

The Ekiti State Government has entered into a 30-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ENSHET Heights Global Limited for the development of economic trees on a 100-hectare section of the Ogbese Forest Reserve.

The agreement, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, and the Chairman of ENSHET Heights Global, Mr. Oladapo Olasope, covers joint tree harvesting, issuance of permits, and dispute resolution through arbitration in Ado-Ekiti.

Supervised at no cost by the Ekiti State Forestry Commission, the deal mandates the company to cultivate only approved tree species, while banning the planting of Indian hemp or other prohibited crops. The investment runs from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2055, subject to a five-year review and possible renewal based on performance.

The MoU further stipulates that harvesting will be conducted jointly, with confirmation from an independent valuer and the Forestry Commission. Any unauthorized felling of trees will be treated as a breach and sanctioned under Ekiti forestry laws.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Ado-Ekiti, ENSHET Heights Global’s Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Tunmise Ayodele, said the project will focus on developing, financing, cultivating, regenerating, processing and marketing cassava and its value-chain products such as flour, starch, sorbitol and ethanol.

Ayodele added that the initiative is expected to create over 1,000 direct jobs, boost the state’s economy, attract foreign investment, and promote environmental sustainability through the planting of both exotic and indigenous tree species.
