Former Lawmaker’s Wife Passes Away in Abuja

Senator Rowland Owie, the former Chief Whip of the Senate, is mourning the loss of his beloved wife, Lady Helen Owie, who passed away at 71 in Abuja following a brief illness.

In a heartfelt statement, Senator Owie reflected on their over fifty years of marriage, describing Lady Helen as the heart of their home—a compassionate figure who united their family with love. He fondly recalled her respectful treatment of his late mother and other family members, emphasizing how her faith, strength, and grace held everyone together.

Senator Owie characterized her as a God-fearing, resourceful, and devoted individual—someone who exemplified humility, kindness, and dedicated service not just as a wife and mother, but as a person whose life profoundly impacted those around her.

Her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary was a cornerstone of her Catholic faith.

Referring to her as his “pillar, peace, and partner in all things,” Senator Owie noted that her quiet strength and deep faith provided a solid foundation for their family life.
