CAF’s Decision Shakes African Football

During its meeting this Tuesday, October 22 in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, the Council of the 46th General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), chaired by South African Patrice Motsepe, took several important decisions, including

Setting elections for March 12, 2025, which will be held in Cairo.

Approval of the budget and validation of the financial accounts following an investigation into previous years.

The removal of the age limit of 70 years for candidacies for the presidency, the executive committee, as well as for CAF representatives to FIFA.

Examination of the circumstances of the Libya-Nigeria match, as part of the qualifications for CAN 2025, scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday.

The abolition of language restrictions for the candidacy of CAF representatives to FIFA.

The Confederation of African Football (“CAF”) published the 2022-2023 audited financial report and the 2024-2025 budget during the 46th CAF Ordinary Assembly held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Tuesday, October 22, 2022 .

The 46th Ordinary Assembly of CAF was chaired by the President of CAF, Dr Patrice Motsepe.

CAF achieved a significant financial turnaround in the 2022-2023 financial year, with a remarkable reduction in losses from US$28.9 million to US$9.2 million.

A year earlier, CAF’s deficit stood at $45 million. This continued positive development is mainly attributed to the strategic reforms implemented by CAF management in 2021.
