Four Soldiers Killed as Boko Haram Attacks Borno Base with Grenades

Four soldiers lost their lives while five others sustained injuries when Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly attack on a military post in Ngamdu, along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, early Friday morning.

According to reports, the attack occurred around 2:30 a.m.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Uba Sani, said the troops repelled the assault after a fierce exchange of gunfire, during which the terrorists suffered heavy casualties.

He stated, “Troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack in the Ngamdu general area, following a swift response by forces on ground and reinforcement elements from 29 Task Force Brigade.

“The terrorists employed Rocket Propelled Grenades, armed drones, and command-initiated Improvised Explosive Devices, targeting both troops and their platforms.”

Despite the intensity of the assault, the soldiers reportedly held their positions and fought back with superior firepower.

“Unfortunately, we recorded four personnel killed in action and five wounded in action. Some Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles and gun trucks also sustained varying degrees of damage,” Sani said.

He added that the terrorists attempted to block reinforcements by planting multiple IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR), prompting a temporary road closure.

“Engineers swiftly cleared three IED-laden spots, and the route has now been reopened for both military and civilian movement,” he noted.

Sani further revealed that troops were resupplied with critical logistics — including MRAP tyres and ammunition — to sustain ongoing operations and restore full mobility.

He also confirmed intelligence reports indicating that the terrorists suffered heavy losses. “Credible sources confirmed mass burials of about 15 bodies conveyed in pushcarts by the terrorists for burial around Bula Wura, near Wasaram,” he added.

He assured that the situation was under control and that sustained operations were ongoing to restore normalcy in the area.

Meanwhile, motorists reported heavy traffic gridlock on the highway during the post-attack security operations.

A supervisor with Borno Express, a commercial transport company, Muktar Yahaya, said several of the company’s buses were held up due to the military’s security checks.

“Boko Haram launched an attack in Ngamdu. Many of our buses were on hold because of military checks in the area. As of this morning (Friday), vehicles were parked by the roadside, unable to continue their journeys,” Yahaya said.
