“Free VDM!” — Protest Erupts in Abuja Over Arrest of Influencer VeryDarkMan
Dozens of protesters stormed the streets of Abuja on Monday, May 5, 2025, demanding the immediate release of popular social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
The demonstration took place in the Wuse area, where the crowd was seen chanting and holding placards that read: “Free VDM! Free VDM!”
The protest comes in response to VDM’s arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, May 2.
VDM is reportedly facing allegations of cyberstalking, though official charges have yet to be made public.
His legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, expressed concern over the lack of transparency, stating that the EFCC has not disclosed the exact offence for which his client is being held.
