Ganduje Slams Atiku Over Opposition Coalition, Predicts Tinubu’s 2027 Victory

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has dismissed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s coalition against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the opposition alliance lacks a strong political base and will not derail Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Atiku, speaking at a Concerned Leaders and Political Stakeholders in Nigeria news conference in Abuja, revealed that the opposition was working on a political realignment similar to the one that led to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) defeat in 2015. The coalition includes notable figures such as former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, ex-APC National Working Committee (NWC) member Salihu Lukman, APC ex-chairmanship aspirant Soni Monidafe and Peter Obi, who was represented by Tanko Yinusa.

Others, including former Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi and ex-Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, were absent but reportedly part of the alliance.

However, Ganduje dismissed the coalition’s chances, stating in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Oliver Okpala:

“Dr. Ganduje does not have any fear of the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027. Tinubu will surely emerge victorious because of his untrammelled performance since he assumed office as President of Nigeria.

“Forget the recent political gatherings and rantings from some politicians who presently do not have any identifiable political base.

“Their gathering from the Labour Party, PDP, Social Democratic Party (SDP) and others are people with different political ideologies and selfish political interests that can never agree on any issue politically.

“The gathering is an assemblage of people with divergent political interests. No amount of political arrangement or gang-up can stop the good people of Nigeria from re-electing Tinubu as President in 2027.”

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, also dismissed the opposition’s coalition as “dead on arrival.” In a statement via his media aide Seyi Olorunsola, he said:

“Atiku, Obi and El-Rufai, the three elusive political wanderers, must understand that Nigeria has moved past the era of trial-and-error politics.”

He further described Atiku as a “serial contender” who has failed repeatedly at the polls, El-Rufai as a “desperate power seeker,” and Obi as someone “fostering ethnic and religious divisions.”

At the Abuja conference, the opposition coalition condemned the state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it unconstitutional and an attack on democracy.

“This action is not only unlawful but also a clear subversion of democracy and imposition of autocratic federal control over a duly elected state government.

“We strongly condemn this development and call on all Nigerians of good conscience to resist this brazen assault on the Constitution of our country and institutions of our democracy.”

The group urged President Tinubu to reinstate Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu and the state House of Assembly, warning that the president’s proclamation set a dangerous precedent.
