Global Collaboration Essential for Sustainable Development, Tinubu Tells UAE Audience
President Bola Tinubu emphasized the importance of global cooperation in achieving a sustainable future, speaking at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on Wednesday. Addressing the topic “From Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity: Bridging Africa with the Global Energy Future,” Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to sustainability while urging international collaboration.
“No single nation can walk the road to sustainability alone,” Tinubu said, highlighting the need for collective action, knowledge sharing, and mutual support. He called climate change both an environmental necessity and an economic opportunity to reshape Africa and the global energy landscape.
The President outlined his administration’s commitment to sustainability through three key pillars: Energy Transition, Climate Resilience, and Sustainable Development.
“We have embraced a vision of sustainability that aligns with global aspirations while addressing local realities. My administration recognises the importance of reducing carbon emissions and a just transition to clean and renewable energy, promoting environmental sustainability and economic growth,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu detailed several ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing Nigeria’s environmental challenges:
– Developing infrastructure for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles.
– Leveraging solid minerals for green energy transition.
– Implementing climate-smart agricultural practices to enhance food security and reduce environmental harm.
– Promoting clean energy through the National Clean Cooking Policy, targeting environmental, health, and socio-economic benefits.
Additionally, he acknowledged Nigeria’s ongoing struggles with deforestation, desertification, coastal erosion, flooding, and pollution, which threaten the livelihoods of millions. Tinubu assured the audience that his government is working with local communities to implement tailored solutions.
The President urged partner countries and global investors to support Nigeria’s sustainability goals, particularly in funding green projects. Nigeria, he noted, is the first African nation to fund such initiatives through Sovereign Green Bond proceeds, with its third issuance underway.

“These investments are capital intensive and require international support from partner countries, including multinational organisations, development partners, and individuals,” Tinubu said.
He invited global leaders to partner with Nigeria in fostering a green economy, leveraging the nation’s arable land for advanced farming technologies and exploring opportunities in artificial intelligence to address environmental challenges.
“Our administration remains committed to providing an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in Nigeria,” Tinubu concluded, reaffirming his commitment to innovation and collaboration for a sustainable future.
