God Warned Me My Firstborn Would Die If I Left RCCG — Pastor Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has revealed that God warned him that his firstborn would die if he ever left the church.
He shared this during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service, themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” held at the Redemption City of God, Ogun State, in the early hours of Saturday, June 7.
Speaking on the importance of divine guidance and spiritual stability, Pastor Adeboye referenced a sermon by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye, and expressed concern over the trend of young Christians frequently switching churches.
Recounting his early days as a believer, he said, “When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were flourishing. I was tempted to join one of them. But God told me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”
At the time, RCCG was relatively obscure, with its headquarters in a modest building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Despite being a university lecturer, Adeboye said God instructed him to submit to a spiritual leader with no formal education.
He urged the congregation—especially young people—to seek and remain where God has placed them. “Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he advised.

Adeboye clarified that his message was not a claim of superiority over other churches. “I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he concluded.
