GOV. ALIA CHARGES NEW PERMANENT SECRETARIES TO BE NON-PARTISAN, RESPONSIBLE OFFICERS

Makurdi, Benue State – Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has called on newly appointed permanent secretaries to uphold the principles of non-partisanship and professionalism in the discharge of their duties. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held at the Government House in Makurdi on Monday, Governor Alia emphasized the critical role of civil servants in driving the state’s development agenda.

The governor reminded the appointees of their responsibility to serve the people of Benue State with integrity, dedication, and transparency. He urged them to rise above political affiliations and prioritize the collective interest of the state over personal or partisan considerations.

“You are not politicians; you are public servants entrusted with the responsibility of implementing government policies and ensuring the smooth functioning of the civil service. Your loyalty must be to the state and the people, not to any political party or individual,” Alia stated.

He further advised the permanent secretaries to demonstrate accountability in managing resources, stressing that their positions require utmost responsibility and ethical standards. “The public service is the engine room of governance. As permanent secretaries, you are the drivers of this engine, and you must ensure it runs efficiently and effectively,” he added.

Governor Alia also highlighted the need for collaboration and innovation, urging the newly sworn-in officers to embrace modern practices to improve service delivery. He reassured them of his administration’s commitment to providing the necessary support and resources to enable them to excel in their roles.

The event, which was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, and civil service representatives, marked a significant step in the administration’s efforts to revitalize the state’s civil service.
