Police Arrest Woman Over Gruesome Murder, Dismemberment of Pregnant Nurse in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old woman, Somtochukwu Nwafor, in connection with the brutal murder and dismemberment of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was apprehended on July 25, 2025, with the help of Umueri village residents, following the shocking discovery of the victim’s mutilated body in a soakaway pit. The incident sparked widespread outrage and fear within the community.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, and posted on Facebook on Wednesday, Nwafor confessed to being the girlfriend of the prime suspect, Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, who is currently on the run.

She admitted to being invited after the murder to clean up the crime scene and further disclosed that the victim’s body parts were sold to native doctors believed to be involved in ritual activities.

The police spokesperson revealed that initial investigations show the victim, a qualified nurse, was lured to the suspect’s residence under the pretense of providing medical treatment.

Based on intelligence gathered from Nwafor, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) raided a shrine on July 29, belonging to a native doctor identified as Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile of Itima Amawa village, Ogbunike.

There, they recovered suspected human body parts wrapped in nylon bags.

The Command has since launched a manhunt for Elobisi and other individuals suspected to be involved in the murder and illegal sale of human organs.
