Sole Survivor of India Plane Crash Speaks Out

Vishwashkumar Ramesh, the only survivor of the Air India flight that crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, has broken his silence following the tragic incident.
The ill-fated Boeing 787-8 was en route to London’s Gatwick Airport on Wednesday evening, carrying 242 passengers—including 53 British nationals—when it plummeted into nearby buildings just minutes after departing Ahmedabad Airport.
Initial reports indicated that no one had survived the crash. However, it was later confirmed that Ramesh, a British national seated in 11A, miraculously escaped death.
Ramesh’s brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh, shared the family’s emotional response in an interview reporters. “It feels great seeing him doing well,” he said, “but he was worried about our other brother, Ajay, who was also on board. We were all in shock as soon as we heard what happened. Just utter shock—speechless.”
Nayan added that Ramesh himself is unsure how he survived. “When he called us, he was just more worried about my other brother, like, ‘Find Ajay, find Ajay.’ That’s all he cares about at the moment.”
Speaking from his hospital bed in the general ward of Civil Hospital in Asarwa, Ahmedabad, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, the only survivor recounted the harrowing moments before the crash.
“I heard a loud noise around 30 seconds after take-off—it all happened so quickly,” he said. “I’ve got injuries to my chest, eyes, and feet.” he said.
Describing the aftermath, he continued: “When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane everywhere. Someone grabbed me, put me in an ambulance, and brought me to the hospital.”
