Guns Alone Can’t End Banditry — Gov. Uba Sani Counters El-Rufai
Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has disagreed with his predecessor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, who recently called for maximum military force against bandits.
Speaking during the presentation of a translated book by the late Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, Governor Sani stressed that insecurity in the North-West cannot be resolved by firearms alone.
“Insecurity can’t be solved solely through the barrel of a gun. Anyone who says otherwise is only playing politics,” he said.
He noted that unlike the ideology-driven Boko Haram insurgency, banditry in the region is fueled by poverty, unemployment, and neglect of rural communities.
According to him, the Kaduna Peace Model which brings together community, traditional, and religious leaders was designed to address these root causes.
“We must not mislead our people by blaming President Tinubu or the NSA, Ribadu. Leaders are elected to protect their people, and that is our responsibility,” Sani added.
