Heirs Insurance Launches N10.5m Essay Championship for Students and Teachers

Heirs Insurance Group has opened applications for the fourth edition of its annual Heirs Insurance Essay Championship, a national competition designed for junior secondary school students.
This year’s edition features a total prize pool of N10.5 million, aimed at promoting education and increasing awareness of insurance among young Nigerians.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, the top prize for the winning student includes a N5 million scholarship, along with a N1 million education grant for their school.
The first and second runners-up will receive scholarships worth N2 million and N1 million, respectively.
To enter the competition, students must submit original essays—no longer than 500 words—on the topic: “The Role of Insurance in Keeping Families Safe and Secure.” Entries can be submitted via the Heirs Insurance website from May 27 to July 8, 2025.
As part of the application process, students will also engage with quizzes and themes centered around insurance, encouraging early understanding of the concept.
In a major addition to this year’s programme, Heirs Insurance has introduced the Teachers’ Insurance Awareness Prize.
This new category recognises educators who champion insurance education within their schools and communities. The winning teacher will receive a N1 million cash prize, along with a N500,000 grant for their school.
To qualify, teachers must implement an insurance awareness project and provide evidence of its execution and impact.
Speaking on the 2025 edition, Ifesinachi Okpagu, Chief Marketing Officer of Heirs Insurance Group, said: “We are excited to return with an even bigger edition of the Heirs Insurance Essay Championship.
This year, we are not only empowering students and schools but also highlighting the vital role teachers play in shaping financially informed communities.
At Heirs Insurance, we believe education is a key driver of a more secure future.”
The Heirs Insurance Essay Championship is a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by Heirs Insurance Group.
It aims to enhance educational outcomes while deepening the understanding of insurance among the youth.
Winners will be celebrated at a Grand Finale event in August 2025.
