2027: Atiku’s Coalition Unveils Zonal Leaders — Kwankwaso Missing from Lineup

As the race for the 2027 general elections intensifies, the Coalition of Nigeria has officially announced its zonal leadership team, drawing from an array of heavyweight politicians across the country. The strategic appointments are part of efforts to build a broad-based alliance ahead of the polls. However, a conspicuous omission is that of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, whose absence from the leadership list has stirred political speculation.

Zonal Appointments:

North East: Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will lead efforts in this region. His longstanding political influence and grassroots connections are seen as assets in rallying support.

North Central: Former Senate President David Mark takes charge here, bringing decades of legislative and political experience to the coalition.

North West: Ex-Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai will lead the charge, expected to inject energy and strategic focus into the coalition’s operations.

South South: Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation, will coordinate activities in this oil-rich zone, leveraging his regional appeal and political networks.

South East: Former Anambra Governor Peter Obi assumes leadership of the zone. His reformist image and strong regional following make him a key figure.

South West: Former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola has been tapped to spearhead the coalition’s campaign in the South West, a region critical to any presidential ambition.

The coalition is banking on the collective reach, reputation, and regional appeal of these political figures to mount a formidable campaign. Their immediate task will be to consolidate support bases, harmonize regional interests, and frame a national agenda that can challenge the ruling party in 2027.

Still, political watchers are curious about the absence of Kwankwaso, a major northern figure and perceived political ally in past opposition arrangements.

As Nigeria inches closer to another pivotal election, the stage is set for what promises to be a high-stakes political showdown.
