“I Wasn’t Good Enough for Naeto C” – Nicole Chikwe Opens Up on Years of Brutal Body Shaming

Nicole Chikwe, wife of celebrated Nigerian rapper Naeto C, has shared a deeply personal account of how online bullying and body-shaming impacted her mental health during the early days of their relationship.

Speaking during a podcast appearance, Nicole recounted how their relationship—once it became public 14 years ago—triggered a storm of hurtful comments on social media. She revealed that strangers cruelly compared her to animals and claimed she wasn’t attractive enough to be dating the music star.

She opened up about the emotional toll the experience took on her self-confidence and mental wellbeing.

Chikwe said:

“When our relationship went public, it was a whole thing. I received a lot of vitroil when it came out. And the rhetoric was that I was not good enough for everyone’s beloveth Naeto C, he could do so much better than her, she’s not beautiful, she’s so ugly. I was compared to all sorts of animals. I received a lot of derogatory words when this thing came out. It was crazy. It was unrelenting and all over social media.

“Now it’s 14 years later and a lot of us have a lot more information regarding managing mental healths. At that time it was new and being on the blog was like the end of your life. It really crippled the confidence I always had while growing up. It definitely made me super insecure. But I was careful because I didn’t want Naeto to feel like I couldn’t handle stuffs. It was really really tough. We eventually got married and it feels like revalidation”.

Nicole and Naeto C’s love story has since flourished, with the couple now seen as one of the most admired celebrity unions in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Nicole’s story highlights the harsh realities of online abuse and the lasting impact it can have on a person’s mental health.
