Ibas Commits to Completing Rivers Assembly Complex Project

Rivers Sole Administrator Vice-Admiral Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd) has pledged to ensure the successful completion of the ongoing reconstruction of the State House of Assembly Complex.
During a site visit on Saturday to inspect progress on the project, which is situated along Moscow Road in the Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Ibas urged the contractor to expedite the work in alignment with their agreement. He emphasized that part of his mandate is to restore full and effective legislative activities within the state.
The Assembly Complex project, awarded to Monier Construction Company (MCC) Limited, features a two-storey building that includes 34 offices, an elevator, a gallery, meeting rooms, and a conference hall. Ibas, accompanied by Dr. George Nwaeke, Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, was shown around the site by Engr. Omaka Oko, the General Manager of MCC.
In reflecting on his first two days in office, Ibas identified the absence of adequate facilities for the legislature as a critical gap in the state’s governance structure. He expressed his commitment to ensuring that the complex is operational within the next six months.
“I have experience in the Executive arm of governance, and I recognize that the legislature’s effectiveness is partly reliant on having a dedicated workspace,” Ibas stated. “I need to confirm that progress is being made as anticipated so that, by the end of the six-month period, this facility is ready for its intended users. That is fundamentally the goal.”
He added, “The contractors have a schedule and specific timelines that I believe they intend to adhere to. The state has fulfilled its part by providing the necessary funding, as I have been informed. The responsibility now rests on them to comply with the agreed terms.”
