IGP, Makinde Hail Oyo CP Sonubi as He Retires After 33 Years

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde have commended the outgoing Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ayodele Sonubi, as he retires after an illustrious 33-year career.

At a retirement ceremony in Ibadan, IGP Egbetokun—represented by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone II, Fayoade Adegoke—praised Sonubi’s unwavering dedication to law enforcement, highlighting his contributions to security in Oyo State and Nigeria.

Governor Makinde, represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Fatai Owoseni, described Sonubi as a professional with integrity.

“As Sonubi bows out of service, his legacy of professionalism, dedication, and inter-agency collaboration will remain a benchmark in law enforcement in Oyo State,” Makinde stated.

The Garrison Commander of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General H.I. Daduki, commended the strong partnership between the Nigerian Army and the Oyo State Police Command under Sonubi’s leadership.

Alhaji Mogaji Aramide Olaniyan, National President of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), described Sonubi as a “pillar of support,” while Barrister Niyi Ajewole, President General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), praised his swift response to security concerns.

In his farewell speech, Sonubi acknowledged the challenges he faced throughout his career, including the toll of the job on his personal and family life. However, he expressed gratitude for concluding his service on a note of fulfillment.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Oyo State Head of Service Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, the Otun Balogun of Ibadan High Chief Kolawole, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI) Coordinator Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade, and other security officials.

Sonubi’s retirement marks the end of a distinguished career dedicated to security and public service in Nigeria.
