Your Love Still Surrounds Us” — Junior Pope’s Widow Honors His Memory One Year After His Passing

Jennifer Awele Odonwodo, the widow of the late Nollywood actor Obumneme Odonwodo, widely known as Junior Pope, has penned a heartfelt tribute to commemorate the first anniversary of her husband’s tragic death.

Junior Pope, along with several crew members, lost his life after drowning in the Anam River in Rivers State on April 10, 2024, while returning from a film shoot produced by Adanma Luke.

His untimely passing ignited public outrage, particularly directed at the producer for allegedly failing to implement adequate safety measures.

On Thursday, Jennifer shared her emotional message on Instagram, describing the past year as incredibly challenging.

Each day has been marked by thoughts of her late husband. She also posted photographs featuring herself and their three sons in front of a large portrait of Junior Pope, dressed in white attire adorned with inscriptions like “Envy of every woman,” “Who does that?”, “God over everything,” and “Swag Nation.”

In her tribute, she reflected, “It’s been one year of confronting our unimaginable loss, and not a single day has passed without thoughts of you. Your love continues to envelop us, your laughter resonates in our hearts, and your presence is profoundly felt during the quiet moments of longing.”

Jennifer expressed the difficulty of staying strong for her children amid their overwhelming grief.

“The weight of our sorrow is immense, leaving a void that words cannot fill. Through it all, we seek strength from above as our guiding light.”

She poignantly shared the heartache of addressing her children’s questions about promises made by their father: “I still struggle to find the right words for Jason and Jaden when they ask if Daddy will still take them to a proper football academy and be there for their first official match. They remember, ‘Daddy said he wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world.’ And little Jamon, affectionately called J Papa, keeps asking when Daddy will bring him the big toy car he promised.”

Jennifer Awele Odonwodo, the widow of late Junior Pope concluded her tribute to her husband with a touching message:

“To our beloved, you have not only left behind your family but countless others who cherished you and your work. It is surreal to express this loss, but may you continue to rest in the embrace of the Almighty. You will forever remain in our hearts and thoughts; your memories and legacy will live on eternally.”

“Though you’re no longer by our side, you live on in every memory, every smile and every tear. We shall carry you with us always until we meet again. We cannot question God, right? May Your Soul Rest In Perfect Peace, My Love.”
