INEC Confirms BVAS for Voter Accreditation in 2026 Ekiti Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the notice for the Ekiti State Governorship Election scheduled for June 20, 2026, confirming that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be used for accrediting voters.

This announcement follows the commission’s earlier release of election dates for both Ekiti and Osun States and aligns with Section 28(1)&(2) of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended).

According to the notice, voting will commence at 8:30 a.m. across the 2,445 polling units in all 16 Local Government Areas of Ekiti State.

INEC emphasized that only registered voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be permitted to vote at their respective polling units.

The commission stated:

“Voters shall only vote at polling units where they are registered. The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System BVAS shall be used for the accreditation of voters,” adding that “no PVC, no voting.”

The use of BVAS, a biometric device designed to prevent voter impersonation and electoral fraud, underscores INEC’s commitment to a more transparent and credible election process in the state.
