FAAN Restarts Cargo Revenue Collection at Lagos Airport After 15 Years

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has resumed direct revenue collection at the cargo terminals of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, after a 15-year break.
The announcement was made in a statement by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, shared via the authority’s official X handle on Saturday.
According to the statement, officials from FAAN’s Directorate of Cargo Development and Services have now been deployed to the cargo release points of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) and Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) warehouses to oversee real-time collection of cargo charges.
“This marks a significant achievement for FAAN, as it successfully resumes direct cargo revenue collection at MMIA after 15 years. For the first time in over a decade, our officials are now positioned at NAHCO and SAHCO warehouses to ensure proper oversight and accountability in revenue collection,” the statement read.
FAAN noted that the initiative, carried out in collaboration with the PTC Customs Area Command led by Comptroller T. Awe, is already plugging revenue leakages and strengthening transparency across the air cargo value chain.
The authority described the development as a milestone in its drive for operational efficiency, transparency, and inter-agency cooperation aimed at boosting revenue performance and improving the ease of doing business in the aviation sector.
