Electoral body insists due process must be followed before verification begins

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has put a hold on the recall process of Senator Natasha Akpoti due to incomplete contact details provided by the petitioners.

According to INEC, the submitted petition, which gathered 474,554 signatures from 902 polling units, lacked essential information. The petitioners listed only the lead petitioner’s phone number and an incomplete address (“Okene, Kogi State”), failing to meet the requirements specified in Clause 1(f).

Until the missing contact details are provided, INEC has announced that the recall process cannot move forward. The commission also urged the public to dismiss unverified reports circulating on social media and reaffirmed that the verification process would only proceed once the required information is complete. BVAS technology will be used for authentication when the process resumes.
