Inspector killed as police, NSCDC operatives clash in Ebonyi

An inspector of the Nigeria Police Force has been confirmed dead following a violent clash with operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Amaeze community, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. To
The Chairman of Ivo LGA, Emmanuel Ajah, disclosed the incident on Wednesday night, citing a briefing he received from the Divisional Police Officer in the area.“I was informed by the DPO that there was a clash involving the police and civil defence officers in Amaeze community, and unfortunately, one police officer lost his life in the process,” Ajah said.
According to local sources, trouble began when three Hilux vans loaded with about 30 policemen allegedly intercepted an NSCDC vehicle transporting mining equipment to a site in the community. The confrontation escalated into gunfire, during which the police inspector was fatally shot and several officers sustained injuries.
Witnesses claimed the inspector was struck when his colleagues mistakenly opened fire while attempting to shoot at an NSCDC operative after one policeman, identified as Shedrack, tried to disarm the officer.
The deceased officer’s remains have been deposited in a morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

As of Thursday morning, both the police and NSCDC commands in Ebonyi had yet to release official statements on the incident.
