Lagos Govt Urges Investment in Youth, Women’s Creativity

The Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bolaji Dada, has called on non-governmental organisations and private sector stakeholders to support innovation driven by youth and women, highlighting creativity as a vital tool for economic growth and global advancement.
Dada made this appeal during the 2025 World Creativity and Innovation Day celebration at the WAPA Skills Acquisition Centre in Isheri, Lagos. The event, themed “Harnessing Creativity for Global Progress,” brought together students, guests, and media representatives.
“In today’s fast-changing world, creativity is not a luxury—it’s a necessity,” Dada said. “From entrepreneurship to technology, innovative thinking is the engine of progress and the foundation of resilient communities.”
She highlighted the impact of the ministry’s vocational and skills development programmes under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, describing them as “incubators of talent and hubs of transformation.”
Dada expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his continued support of women and youth empowerment efforts and commended WAPA staff and leadership for their commitment to these initiatives.

Also speaking at the event, Joy Ikpe, founder of the Leadership Challenge Foundation, encouraged students to embrace their creativity and learn how to communicate the value of their skills.
“Whatever you do, focus on creating value. If you can’t articulate that value, you’re limiting yourself,” she said. “Confidence is essential, and vocational skills are assets that stay with you wherever you go.”
