JAMB Suspends Law Admissions in Eight Universities Over Regulatory Breach

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended Law admissions in eight universities for the 2025/2026 academic session following a directive from the Council of Legal Education (CLE). The suspension was imposed due to violations of regulatory procedures by the affected institutions.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, confirmed the development, stating that the affected universities include Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin; Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State; Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State; and Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State.

Others are Taraba State University, Jalingo; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State; and the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

The suspension at the Nigerian Police Academy will extend for two academic sessions (2025/2026 and 2026/2027).

“As a result, JAMB will not approve any admissions for candidates seeking to enrol in the Law programme at the aforementioned universities for the 2025/2026 academic session,” Benjamin said in a statement.

A source from one of the affected universities admitted that the sanction was linked to past violations.

“We violated admission quota some five years ago. We are being punished alongside the listed universities as deterrence to future violators,”the source said.

The suspension serves as a warning to other institutions to adhere strictly to legal education regulations in Nigeria.
