Judgment Date Set for Gospel Singer Accused of Killing Female Corps Member in Nasarawa

Justice Simon Aboki of the Nasarawa State High Court in Lafia has scheduled June 26, 2025, for judgment in the high-profile murder case involving Timileyin Ajayi, the alleged killer of Salome Adaidu, a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.

The decision came after both the prosecution and defense teams adopted their final written addresses during proceedings on Monday.

The session had initially been delayed to allow defense counsel, Joseph Tuku Bisson, to formally announce his appearance in court due to a late arrival. Once proceedings resumed, Bisson adopted his final address, urging the court to acquit and discharge his client, citing the prosecution’s alleged failure to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

“I sought for two reliefs from the Court to ensure that due process is followed in the prosecution of the case,” Bisson said.

In response, prosecution counsel Joseph Kigbu also adopted his final address and appealed to the court to dismiss the defendant’s plea and impose the full weight of the law.

Justice Aboki commended both legal teams for their commitment and adjourned the case to June 26 for final judgment.

After the court session, Ajayi—reportedly a gospel singer—was seen praying quietly in the courtroom.

The trial has drawn national attention, especially given the victim’s status as a serving corps member and the accused’s public profile in religious circles.
